Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, |
The international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has been elevated by Pope Benedict XVI to the status of a pontifical Foundation. The official seat of the foundation is the Vatican City. This represents the fulfilment of a wish of Father Werenfried to see the charity always very close to the Holy Father. Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, has been appointed by the Pope as the President of the new Foundation. Its Executive President will be Johannes Freiherr Heereman, while its new Ecclesiastical Assistant is Father Martin Barta. |

This month’s issue is about subsistence aid and the essential contribution of religious sisters to evangelization. We invite you to read on these subjects in our International projects section and put ACN on your Christmas shopping list. This time, page 4 of the Mirror is reservec for an article by Marie-Claude Lalonde, national director of ACN-Canada on the subject of religious liberty in Egypt: « Even if Egypt is a member of the United Nations (UN), it doesn’t prevent it from falling short with respect to Human rights. Freedom of expression is steadily undermined and bloggers from the Arab Spring remain behind bars. » »»»» |

ACN Canada receives absolutely no government subsidies; it relies entirely on your donations to carry on its mission. However, our governments do encourage philanthropy and charity through generous tax credits to donors. Although
these credits can change from year to year, changes are usually
minor and therefore, using the past fiscal year grid can give you
a very good idea of the credits your current year donations can
earn you. Download the
grid for your province or territory of residence to make such
an assessment. However, please take due note that these calculation grids are only meant for evaluation purposes, and although every care has been taken to provide a useful tool, we are not tax specialists. Consequently, we cannot and do not guarantee perfect accuracy in all cases and the use of the grids should not prevent you from consulting a tax specialist or accountant, when needed. Finally, even though we do not call your attention to it every time, we do make minor modifications as needed to keep this site up to date and, we sincerely hope, useful and interesting. Thanks for visiting. |
